A technician from Brampton has reached the finals of a global competition in the United States.
Tom March is one of 10 finalists in Caterpillar's inaugural Global Dealer Technician Challenge, which is being held in Edwards, Illinois.
The competition is designed to celebrates the role that dealer technicians play in customer service and aims to raise awareness of career opportunities in the sector.
Henry Venneman, Caterpillar's vice president of global service, said: "These trained experts are on the front line of support, working to keep machines and engines up and running to help ensure our customers’ critical projects are completed."
Mr March reached the finals after progressing through several rounds of competition, outperforming thousands of technicians worldwide.
The overall winner will be announced next week at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas.
The challenge highlights the growing demand for technicians, with Caterpillar estimating that Cat dealers may need to hire more than 38,000 technicians by the end of 2028.
Competitors faced a series of practical stations assessing safety, quality, efficiency, and customer experience.
Mr Venneman said: "There are thousands of opportunities available globally for those who are interested in a hands-on career.
"Cat dealers are often looking for individuals who are problem solvers, mechanically inclined, and tech savvy."
