A rare 50p coin linked to the Lake District is up for sale at more than £20,000

The 2017 Beatrix Potter "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" coin, listed on eBay, is marked at £20,086.70 with an option for negotiation.

Among these collectors, Beatrix Potter-themed coins can attract significant interest online, particularly when in pristine condition or from limited releases.

Although millions of Peter Rabbit-themed 50p coins were produced, certain versions can attract significant interest online, particularly those in pristine condition, limited releases or with specific features.

Generally, top-tier pieces, such as gold proof coins, hold more value than ordinary coins.

Beatrix Potter gold Proof coins include the 2020 Peter Rabbit Gold Proof 50p offered by dealers at around £2,000–£2,200, and the 2016 UK 150th Anniversary of Beatrix Potter 50p Gold Proof listed at about £1,800–£1,850.

Such gold proof issues are significantly pricier compared to the standard silver proof or the brilliant uncirculated ones, which are usually under a few hundred pounds in retail.

Coin pricing is a blend of factors, including the number of coins minted, their condition, the market demand, and any minting errors they might have.

While some coins have successfully fetched large sums online, experts advise collectors to pay attention to recently sold prices, rather than current asking prices.

Professional appraisals are also encouraged to gauge a coin's worth accurately.

The Royal Mint has previously said that while some coins can be valuable, many listings reflect sellers’ expectations rather than guaranteed market value.

The Beatrix Potter collection has become one of the most sought-after series among UK coin collectors in recent years.
