A LAKE DISTRICT athlete has received a prestigious award at the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year Awards 2025.
Sarah Perry received the Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration, which recognises inspirational endeavour in honour of the late sports presenter Helen Rollason.
In her biography, Sarah Perry is described as an ultra runner based in Cockermouth.
Describing the athlete, The Times said: "She holds multiple ultra running records and Fastest Known Times (FKTs).
"At the 2025 Big’s Backyard Ultra World Championships, she outlasted all female (and most male) competitors to set a women's world record.
"Sarah balances her training with a part-time job as a maths teacher in adult education. She can usually be found training on the fells and trails of the northern Lake District, alongside her partner Luke and their dog Murphy."
The INOV8 athlete received her award at a star-studded ceremony in London last night, February 4.
Sarah, who set an incredible new women’s backyard ultra world record in 2025, told INOV8: “I feel honoured to have won the Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration.
“Last night was a powerful reminder of the impact that sport can have on our lives, and I came away feeling more inspired than ever.
“I’m proud to have represented the women’s ultrarunning community - a group of people who prove that with courage and relentless determination, we can overcome almost anything.”
Sarah is the second ultra runner in consecutive years to win the coveted award, following in the footsteps of Jasmin Paris.
