From Thai and Japanese cuisine to Greek and Thai dishes, here are just some of the restaurants bringing an exotic flavour to the city.

This well established Warwick Road restaurant celebrated its 25 year anniversary in September and continues to go from strength to strength.

Martin Archibald, restaurant manager, who is coming up to seven years at Alexandros said: "It's like nowhere else I've worked.

"There's a lot of new faces coming-in but we still have our old faithful regular customers that have been coming for 20 plus years."

It is an exciting period for the family restaurant as Aris, the owner, has brought his three sons into the business.

Martin said Aris has been involved "From day one - he and his wife Sarah. He still plays a leading role in the kitchen."

Royal Outpost Thai and Asian Restaurant

This Thai and Asian restaurant, with a rating of 4.5 out of five on Trip Advisor, first opened in 2011.

Visitors to the Warwick Road restaurant, praise the "lovely atmosphere," presentation and accommodating staff.

If you enjoy Asian delicacies such as butter prawns; beef massamam and bao buns, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

Oka Tapasu

Based in the Greenmarket, Oka Tapasu is serving-up "bold punchy flavours" from Japan and Korea.

With a rating of 4.4 out of five on Trip Advisor, Oka Tapasu is hailed by customers as offering "ridiculously good" alongside "amazing" cocktails such as the Singapore Sling.

Are you a fan of sushi, ramen and Korean BBQ? This fusion of Japanese and Korean cuisine is made for you.

Anatolia Turkish Mez Bar and Restaurant

Based on Abbey Street and just a stone's throw from the city centre, Anatolia promises "a truly unforgettable fine dining experience," with its Turkish and Mediterranean grill.

Restaurant manager Mustafa said that Anatolia is one of the few restaurants serving Turkish cuisine in the Carlisle area.

He said that new restaurants and takeaways opening in the city is "good for Carlisle. It's good for businesses as well, competition is good.

"We've got our regular customers, they still love it," but he said, "it's a visitor place close to the lakes, so we get quite a lot of new customers as well."

The Dhaka Restaurant

This Indian restaurant, found on London Road, bases its dishes on "generations culinary heritage."

Customers of The Dhaka are promised a meal that is "crafted with care and attention to detail," earning the restaurant a spot in the final of Best Curry House 2025 competition.

With a TripAdvisor rating of 4.3 out of five, customers praise the warm welcome they receive from staff and the "fabulous food," which they say is "excellent" value for money.
