HOSPITALS in Cumbria are seeing a rise in admissions as NHS bosses warn 2025 could bring the worst flu season in years.
Daily emergency care data reveals that an average of 295 people were admitted to hospitals in the North West last week with flu.
The figure is more than double that of the same week last year.
North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) saw an average of 19 hospital admissions for flu each day last week.
The number of flu hospitalisations at the health trust was an increase on 14 per day seen in the previous week.
NCIC is responsible for West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay saw an average of 25 admissions per day last week, this was an increase of 14 admissions on the 11 recorded the week before.
The trust's sites include Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness.
NHS bosses have said the data confirms their fears "that we could be experiencing the worst flu season in recent years" and emphasises the need to take up free vaccinations.
