Cumbrian medal-winner Anna Nicholson has been named in Britain's Paralympic World Class Programme for 2025/26.

The Paralympic Games and World Para Athletics bronze medallist is in a cohort of 41 athletes to be offered membership of the programme for the next period of competition.

It will see the Brampton shot put athlete receive further support in her preparation and competition as she targets further success in top international competitions.

Nicholson, 30, is named in the Paralympic Podium group - the top tier of the programme, the others being Podium Potential and Confirmation.

The World Class Programme (WCP) is funded by UK Sport’s National Lottery-funded initiative.

Former William Howard School student Nicholson impressed by winning bronze at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, and followed that up with another bronze at October's World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.

Her potential to succeed at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles is reflected in her place on the latest WCP.

British Athletics, in a statement, said: "Those selected receive further support and competition opportunities, along with specialist input from UK Athletics’ performance, sports science, and medical teams.

"Athletes also receive an Athlete Performance Award, helping support their sporting and daily training needs."

Katie Jones, head of the UKA Paralympic programme, said: “We are hugely thankful to UK Sport and The National Lottery for their ongoing investment in the Paralympic World Class Programme. Their support is vital and enables us to remain among the world’s leading nations in para athletics.

“Following the outstanding performances at the World Para Athletics Championships, it’s exciting to welcome new athletes into the programme, many of whom have progressed through our Futures pathway.

“This backing truly matters. It ensures our para athletes have the strongest possible preparation for major Championships and helps us continue building momentum as we work towards the LA 2028 Paralympic Games and beyond.”
