ROAD and car park closures remain in force today due to flooding, affected areas include Allonby, Kirkbride and Carlisle.

Cumberland Council has published the list of road and car parks that remain closed following a bout of heavy and persistent rainfall over the past 48 hours.

Although the inclement weather appears to have passed, the B5300 at Allonby and the C2040, between Kirkbride and Oulton, remains closed following localised flooding.

St Ninians and Kingmoor Road in Carlisle have now reopened.

A spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: "Caldew Riverside Car Park remains closed due to extensive flooding and will stay closed until further notice.

"Caldew Riverside permit holders are advised to use West Walls, Castle, Paddy’s Market, or Viaduct Car Parks in the meantime."

Castle Car Park and West Walls Car Park have both reopened this morning but the council has said it will closely monitor the situation at both locations "in-line with flood warning advice."

A flood alert remains in place for the Lower River Eden in Carlisle, affecting Denton Holme, Willow Holme, Bitts Park and Warwick Road.
