Cumbrian Dean Henderson has been named as one of the best 25 goalkeepers in the world.
The Whitehaven star is one of the planet’s top glovemen according to leading American magazine Sports Illustrated.
They include Crystal Palace and England keeper Henderson in an illustrious list which features just two English No1s.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a memorable 2024/25 season, winning the FA Cup with Palace before recently earning his third full England cap.
His progress earns him 25th place in the Sports Illustrated list.
The list’s authors say of the former Carlisle United academy player: “Dean Henderson has endured an up-and-down senior career, with early promise shown at Sheffield United beginning to fade.
“Questions arose as to whether the Englishman was any good at all, but the former Manchester United keeper has answered a few critics at Crystal Palace.
“Henderson ranks among the most efficient shot-stoppers in the Premier League and many now regard him as a shoo-in for England selection.”
Henderson was recently handed a chance by England head coach Thomas Tuchel, who started the west Cumbrian for the Three Lions’ 3-1 defeat to Senegal.
That was his second England start and his third appearance for the senior side.
It came after a campaign when Henderson made 44 appearances for Premier League club Crystal Palace – including a dramatic FA Cup final when he saved a penalty during the Eagles’ 1-0 win over Manchester City.
Sports Illustrated name Liverpool’s Brazilian No1 Alisson Becker as the best goalkeeper in the world.
Second place goes to Real Madrid’s Belgian star Thibaut Courtois, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Italian favourite Gianluigi Donnarumma third.
Henderson’s fellow England man Jordan Pickford is also on the list. Everton’s former Carlisle United loanee is 20th, credited for his club form as well as his England displays in tournaments such as Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.
