A 34-year-old man from Wigton has been arrested for allegedly pulling a knife on a male cyclist in Carlisle yesterday. 

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident that occurred outside of McVities on Church Street, yesterday (July 8) at 4pm.

It is reported a man got out of a dark-coloured hatchback car, pulled a knife from his clothing and confronted another male on a pushbike at the pedestrian crossing.

The 34-year-old was arrested on suspicion of using "threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence, possessing a sharp-pointed article in a public place and threatening a person with a sharply pointed article in a public place".

He was later released on bail.

Police are asking for any witnesses with mobile phone footage or dashcam to contact us.
