AN attempted burglary which occurred overnight in the Bowscar area of Penrith has sparked an investigation by detectives.

In the early hours of June 11, officers received a report of people attempting to gain access to a property on Bowscar Road between 1:15-1:30am.

No items were taken during the incident, but the offenders were also seen acting suspiciously in neighbouring property’s gardens.

Detectives are appealing for residents in the area and surrounding areas who may have CCTV, doorbell camera footage or dashcam footage from around the time of the incident, to contact police.

Officers are also appealing for information relating a white transit style van with the livery of ‘Greyhill’ on the side and rear which was seen in the area at the time of the offence. The van has amber coloured side reflectors or lights.

Police would like to remind residents to ensure windows and doors are locked overnight and to be vigilant around any suspicious activity.

Some simple home security steps include :

  • Lock all doors and windows and ensure that your house and keys are secure before you go to bed
  • Remove keys from locks, keeping them out of reach and out of sight - not on a hall table
  • Don’t leave valuables in sight.
  • Don’t leave downstairs windows open after you go to bed
  • Consider keeping a light or lamp on
  • Consider installing real or dummy CCTV
