THE Gather will be hosting a talk about a Lake District nature icon.

The community venue in the Western Lake District will be hosting the talk today, June 11, at 7pm.

It will explore the importance of Herdwick Sheep, which has been integral to the farming way of life in Cumbria for centuries.

In a post on social media, The Gather wrote: "Herdwick sheep are the native breed of the central and western Lake District and live on the highest of England’s mountains. They are extremely hardy and are managed in the traditional way on the Lake District fells that have been their home for generations.

"Join us for this informative talk by Will Rawling, Chairman of the Herdwick Sheep Breeders Association – whose family has farmed the far-western fells for 500 years.

"Complimentary refreshments are included in the ticket price. Tickets are available in advance or on the door."
