THE potential 'axing of 75 jobs' at a Carlisle can manufacturing plant is set to have a knock-on effect for Sodexo employees at the site.

The News & Star understands Botcherby's Crown Bevcan, on Borland Avenue, may be eliminating the roles following the possible closure of some of its manufacturing lines, as reported in April.

Whilst the official figure of job losses is yet to be confirmed, Carlisle's MP John Stevenson expressed concerns over the loss of potentially '75' roles at the soft and alcoholic drink can manufacturer.

A spokesperson from facilities management company Sodexo has since confirmed the job losses have impacted some of their roles at the site.

"We have started the consultation process with our colleagues affected and will be supporting them fully throughout the process, where possible we will look to find them alternative employment within Sodexo," a spokesperson said.

Unite Union, representing workers at the site, called the potential redundancies "extremely concerning" and is negotiating to keep job losses at a "minimum".

The Crown Holdings Group, of which Crown Bevcan is part, was approached for comment.
