A Cumbrian legal firm's team are set to compete in the final of the Northern Law Awards.

Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors' Dispute Resolution team are the only entrants from the county in their category of Litigation and Dispute Resolution.

The firm's team assists clients across Cumbria, Northumberland, and the rest of the UK.

They offer a wide array of civil litigation services, specialising in disputes involving wills and inheritance, agricultural topics, people lacking mental capacity, and care funding issues.

Mark Aspin, leader of the Dispute Resolution team and a director at Cartmell Shepherd, said: "We are delighted to have been named as a finalist for this award.

"It is a testament to the hard work, expertise and dedication of the entire team."

Mr Aspin stresses the importance of a client-focused approach.

He said: "Our priority is to find the right solutions for our clients, and our commitment to building trusted relationships with our clients while drawing on the specialisms of individuals helps us achieve that."

When dealing with emotional situations like contesting a will, Mr Aspin emphasises the need to guide clients with gentle care.

He said: "We understand that facing difficult situations such as disputing a will can be an emotional and upsetting process so it’s our role to support clients with advice and guidance to help them through it.

"The feedback we get from our clients reflects the positive impact this type of approach has on the parties involved."

Cartmell Shepherd's team comprises 15 individuals with broad experience, from legal veterans boasting more than two decades in the field to apprentices beginning their journey.

A considerable number of team members have undergone their legal instruction at Cartmell Shepherd.

The Northern Law Awards 2024 are scheduled to take place on June 27 at St James’ Park, Newcastle.

Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors employ more than 120 people across seven offices in Cumbria and Northumberland, after acquiring Hexham-based solicitors Nicholson Portnell in April 2024.
