FIVE people have been taken to hospital - some with 'serious injuries' - following a two vehicle crash at Houghton.

A road closure is currently in place on the A689 between junction 44 of the M6 and the Houghton junction following a collision involving two vehicles this afternoon (May 23).

The collision occurred at around 1.45pm and involved a Volkswagen Crossland and an Audi Q5.

Five people have been taken to hospital, with some described by police as having suffered serious injuries.

The road is likely to remain closed for a number of hours whilst forensic examinations are carried out at the scene.
