DEVELOPMENT work on the new Endoscopy Unit set for the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle will affect parking on the site.

North Cumbria Integrated Care said they were 'very excited' to announce the new development which will cost around £15 million

However, for the work to take place they have said that there will have to be some changes made to the current car parking system.

A spokesperson said: "From next Wednesday, May 29, the large car park to the left (car park B) as you drive up the site will be changed from a staff car park into a public car park.

"The number of public car parking spaces in the main car park on the right (car park A1) as you come into the site will be decreased.

"Both the main car park and the new public car park will temporarily be pay and display from Wednesday, May 29.

"You will need to pay for a ticket and display it on your windscreen. Should appointments overrun you are able to extend car parking tickets through an app on your phone."

The new unit will be located on Newthorn Road on a landscaped site which is part of the hospital complex and is currently used as a car park.

It will be located next to the Cancer Centre and will be linked to the main hospital.
