THE National Lottery is seeking a number of Carlisle-based 'game changers' as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.

The campaign, which is being formed by former Royal Marine Commando and broadcaster JJ Chalmers, is seeking nominations for local 'game changers' who could receive a share of the lottery's latest grant.

Since the first National Lottery draw was held on November 19, 1994, £50,709,862 has been awarded to causes in Carlisle through 913 individual grants.

Speaking after the launch of the National Lottery, JJ Chalmers reflected on his journey after being injured by an IED explosion in Afghanistan in 2011 and encouraged the local community to nominate their game changers.

He said: "During my own recovery journey and involvement with the Invictus Games, I have encountered countless unsung heroes who work tirelessly to improve the lives of people around them.

"I think it’s really important that we celebrate these inspirational individuals and thank them for all that they do.

"If you know somebody who has done something amazing with National Lottery funding over the last 30 years, then please take the time to nominate them as a National Lottery Game Changer."
