A baby and children’s Wear shop in Cumbria has won the national Kite Shop of the Month Award.

The Twinkletoes store, located in Penrith's historic Devonshire Arcade, has been recognised for its lively and imaginative Summer Window display.

This Cumbrian shop has garnered appreciation for its creative showcase of Kite clothing, against a backdrop of colourful flowers and sunflowers, embodying the joyous atmosphere of the store.

Owners Andrew and Liane Dixon, who have been operating the shop since November 2011, expressed delight over the award, stating: "We’re over the moon to be recognised with this award.

"It mirrors our commitment to sourcing distinctive, high-quality garments for our community.

"Our Summer Window was crafted with love, and it’s heartwarming to see the pleasure it brings to our patrons."

News and Star: The winning display

The store started as a small business but swiftly grew, relocating to a larger location within the arcade in November 2012.

It has since been updated with an added wooden floor to enhance its cozy ambiance.

The aim of Twinkletoes is to offer a personal, reliable service, selling exclusive brands including Kite, Piccalilly, Lilly & Sid, Toby Tiger, Emile Et Rose, Rapife, Kaloo, Dandelion, among others.

Positioned close to the Lake District and within a farming community, the shop's farm-themed collections have gained popularity.

Even through challenges such as Covid and road closures, the Dixons persisted, adapting and expanding their business.

Their window displays have been successful, winning multiple competitions.

Twinkletoes has invested in community engagement, hosting fundraising events for local causes including the air ambulance, Penrith birthing centre, and Beaconside School, demonstrating gratitude for the institutions supporting their family.

The store has also welcomed various celebrities, including Helen Skelton, Chris Gascoyne of Coronation Street, and Mel Giedroyc.

The Dixons extended their heartfelt appreciation to their family, friends, and customers for their unwavering support.

They are looking forward to providing their unique offerings to both returning and new customers for a long time.
