HALF term is well and truly here as schools across the county are given a week off school.

It is arguably one of the best half terms for any youngster as summer is in full swing and it's a great time to enjoy themselves and have fun.

Whilst the week off may be a little stressful for parents, it is still a great time for them to spend time with their children as a family.

Here at Newsquest, we've compiled a list of the top five things to do in the area this half term.

We hope you find this useful and have a great time off.

Carlisle Castle

One of the most iconic scenes in the city is the magnificent castle which watches over the area from a raised hill.

The castle is bustling with a rich history dating right the way back to the medieval era.

Hundreds of years ago it was the centre of wars and sieges. However nowadays, there is a whole host of activities to be enjoyed like exhibitions and a museum.

It covers something of an untouched part of the West Coast and Lake District that is most certainly worth a visit.

There's always something going on at this amazingly well-preserved historic site which is a true relic from the past.

There are a whole range of activities, themed events, and attractions to enjoy and acres of land to explore.

The castle has recently opened there Weapon's Hall which is not to be missed.

Clip n' Climb

This Maryport attraction is the first of its kind in the North of England.

There are a variety of climbing and exercise-based activities to help you stay active in a fun and exciting environment.
