EXTENSIONS could be added to a Carlisle home to provide extra living space as well as room for a health and beauty salon.

Plans have been submitted to Cumberland Council for a single storey side extension and rear extensions at an address in Kingstown Road.

It is proposed that the side extension would house the salon while the rear extensions would provide additional living accommodation. In addition, the applicant is hoping to build a covered porch to the front of the building.

According to the planning application the walls would be made from bricks, the porch would have a red tile roof, the extensions would have grey roofs and the windows would be light grey composite units.

In a statement applicant Ashleigh Williams said: "The business is an already established aesthetics clinic, currently based in the centre of Carlisle.

"I work approximately one to two days per week, seeing maximum of five or six clients in total, in the week.

"The most I have had in one day is five people but if I am working from home it is likely this will be much more spread out or sporadic.

"There are no other employees, only myself as the fully qualified and insured practitioner. The premises I have now is far too big for what I need and with having a young family, it would be more beneficial for me to do this from home as I am currently paying for full monthly rental on a unit I use very little.

"Most aesthetics practitioners do this from their spare bedrooms but I wanted a dedicated space so as to keep it separate from my family."

The application is currently being considered by officers at the council's planning department.
