An 'exciting milestone' has been reached in the construction of the Carlisle southern link road according to Cumberland Council.
Last week saw the successful installation of six steel bridge deck beams for the bridge on Durdar Road, a key milestone in the completion of the road.
When completed, the link road project will see a relief road built south of Carlisle linking the M6 to the A595 at Newby West which will reduce traffic through the city centre and also help to facilitate the St Cuthbert's Garden Village project, which will see 10,000 new homes built.
A spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: "We reached another exciting milestone last week with the successful installation of all six steel bridge deck beams at the new bridge on Durdar Road.
"A huge thank you to the engineering and construction teams whose hard work and precision made this possible."

A number of roadworks and closures are in place as part of the road building.
Newbiggin Road, Burthwaite Road and Ivegill Road all have traffic lights in place and Wreay Road and Durdar Road are both closed.
