A PENRITH teenager has admitted being part of a violent attack which left the victim badly bruised.

Carlisle Youth Court heard how trouble involving the 15-year-old boy flared outside a town building on 23rd May last year as the other boy was leaving.

Prosecutor George Shelley alleged that a male had been the subject of a group attack.

“He is assaulted,” said Mr Shelley. “There are multiple blows to the head. He then goes to the floor where kicks are administered.”

In court today the 15-year-old boy admitted an actual bodily harm assault. This was a less serious, alternative charge to one he had initially faced — attempting to wound the male with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The victim had attended hospital. He was left with bruising to his head with one eye swollen shut. Although a fracture was suspected, scans revealed none had been caused.

But in an impact statement, the male outlined the lasting effects of the attack.

“The experience has made me feel angry that I could not defend myself,” he said. “This affected me walking home alone, placing me in fear.”

Imposing a 12-month referral order, the judge hoped this issue could be one of several addressed by youth workers. He also ordered that £100 compensation should be paid to the victim.
