The Barista Cafe, Wine and Tapas has been nominated by News & Star readers as one of the ten finalists in its 'Best Cafe 2024' award.

We're highlighting the shortlisted cafes in our competition in the News & Star. Each of the establishments will be featured over ten issues.

The cafe, which is located on Wigton's High Street, is owned by Janice Evans and offers all the traditional cafe classics as well as some modern favorites.

It's nomination by News & Star readers for 'Best Cafe 2024' also comes months after The Barista was awarded a new five-out-of-five food hygiene rating with owner Janice Evans expressing her delight.

She said: "I am absolutely over the moon.

"We have got so many lovely and loyal customers and we are so appreciative to them all.

"They support us every day and we get a real mixture of customers in here from all ages and some of them just come in for a coffee and a chat and we have got some really lovely people.

"Everyone seems so happy who comes in here and I am so grateful for everyone that has nominated us."

Janice also explained how she believes that the cafe's determination to be inclusive and promote inclusivity played a big part in securing their nomination.

She said: "We get a lot of people, locals who come in and support us but we also get a lot of people from the outside little villages and surrounding areas.

"We have a rustic side to the cafe which has wooden floors and a log fire so you can come in and get nice and warm and bring your dogs inside and feel comfy.

"We have also got a lovely linge area which is a lot more modern and that bit trendier and when the sun shines we have got a lovely seating area outside.

"We try and cater for everyone and we do a lot of gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian food.

"I think customers have seen that we are trying to be a cafe for everyone."
