PENRITH fire crews had a busy day yesterday, attending a workshop fire as well as a car crash.

Quick-thinking owners dialed emergency services and used on-site extinguishers preventing the workshop blaze from escalating at around 2pm (April 9).

In the evening, a trapped male driver was rescued after his car overturned.

Stabilising the vehicle, crews extricated him through the car's rear.

He was taken to hospital and checked for minor injuries.

In a post on social media, Penrith Fire Station said: "Just before 2pm, we were called out to a workshop on fire.

"On arrival we found what had been a very hot fire with lots of potential for rapid escalation, but the owner's quick action calling us out and having fire extinguishers on hand prevented this from happening.

"We committed two teams of two BA wearers with two hose reel jets to fully extinguish the fire and ventilate.

"Just after 6pm tonight, we were mobilised to reports of a road traffic collision where a car had come to rest on its side leaving one male driver unable to get out.

"Fire crews were able to stabilise the vehicle and then extricate the gentleman through the rear of the car where he was then taken to hospital to be checked over for minor injuries," they said.
