Dr Neil Hudson MP has welcomed the extension of the triple lock on pensions for 116,900 pensioners across Cumbria.

The Conservatives have confirmed that the Triple Lock will be in their upcoming manifesto after months of speculation.

Under the triple lock system, the state pension increases each April in line with whichever of these three measures is highest - inflation, as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) in the September of the previous year - the average increase in wages across the UK - or 2.5 per cent.

Dr Neil Hudson MP said: “The Conservatives introduced the Triple Lock in 2011 to ensure pensioners receive dignity and respect in old age – it has helped lift 200,000 pensioners out of poverty and assures peace of mind for millions of pensioners.

“That is why I am delighted the Conservative Government will boost the state pension by £900 this year, increasing the income of 116,900 pensioners in Cumbria.

“This will ensure pensioners’ incomes are protected as the Conservatives stick to the plan and strengthen the economy, helping to secure a brighter future for pensioners and families across the country.”
