Cockermouth auctioneers, Mitchells is set to host a three-day Country Sporting Sale next week, boasting an array of hunting, shooting and fishing memorabilia.

The three-day event set to take place from April 17 to 19, will see a wide range of items up for auction, including sporting guns, fishing rods, reels and tackle, and quality taxidermy pieces.

Topping the list of notable items is a 1947 William Powell of Birmingham 12-bore side-by-side shotgun estimated at £5,000-£6,000.

The shotgun features 28" barrels and a leather and brass cornered motor case.

Other shooting enthusiast delights include a Caesar Guerini Maxum 28 bore over and under shotgun, expected to fetch £2,700-£3,000, as well as a local William Murdock of Whitehaven 14 bore single barrel percussion sporting gun, with an estimated auction price of £200–£300.

For fishing enthusiasts: a historic 1830 Ustonson brass pull winch fishing reel marked 'Ustonson maker to His Majesty, Temple Bar London', is anticipated to go for £1,500–£2,000.

A Charles Farlow & Co. four-tiered concertina fly box with approximately 100 salmon flies is another interesting lot projected to sell between £70–£100.

Among the taxidermy items is a pair of Kingfishers attributed to Murray of Carnforth, which is forecasted to fetch £300-£500.

A collection by Peter Spicer & Sons of Leamington Spa, some of the greatest British taxidermists of the late 19th and early 20th century, will also go under the hammer.

This includes ten fox and otter masks from local Cumberland hunting packs, carrying individual estimates of £180-£220.

Also on offer are two historical photographs by F Nainby featuring Cockermouth Beagles in their last hunts of the 1899 and 1902 seasons respectively.

Each photograph carries an estimate of £50-£80.

The schedule for the sale is outlined with guns and ammunition kicking off the event on Wednesday, followed by shooting accessories, taxidermy, ceramics, books and pictures on Thursday.

Friday will feature the sale of fishing rods, reels and tackle.

Interested attendees can preview the lots at Mitchells town centre saleroom in Cockermouth on Monday, April 15 from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday, April 16 from 10am until 7pm, and on each of the sale days.

A printed catalogue is available for £3 from the saleroom.

In addition, Mitchells is also accepting entries for their online Maritime & Transport Sale from May 10 to May 20.

The sale includes a 2006 Piaggio Vespa LX50 scooter estimated at £400-£600.

Furthermore, Mitchells is inviting the public for free drop-in valuations at their Cockermouth saleroom from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
