A Carlisle youth club is set to host a fashion fundraiser at the Halston this week to raise vital funds.

The Rock Youth Project is a registered charity who run universal youth clubs which work with children and young people aged 10 to 18.

On Friday April 12, they will host a fashion show at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle, after members have spent recent weeks recycling old clothes into new outfits.

Project manager Hannah Gill said: "The fashion show was a girls club project, as the girls wanted to learn how to make clothes and recycle old clothes into new clothes.

"The main theme behind this project was body positivity, growing up in the age of social media our young people discussed how there is so much pressure to look and be a certain way.

"Our young people wanted to challenge this and celebrate their individuality in a fun way."

The charity have funded the project thanks to a grant from the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, and all tickets will be free, with attendees invited to donate as much as they please to help fund the work that the rock does.

Hannah added: "We received donations of clothes, material and sewing patterns from members of the community. We have also had some amazing volunteers to help our young people and they have delivered workshops teaching them how to sew, alter clothes and even hair and beauty techniques.

"Our young people have made clothes from scratch, made accessories such as jewellery, scrunchies and sleep masks.  They have also adapted clothes to make them fit but also create entirely new styles.

"We wanted to showcase the designs the young people have created and our members were eager to model these creations along with youth workers at the Halston Hotel.

"The fashion project and the fashion show has been and is 100 per cent young person led. Our young people have designed the themes, created the clothes, created the posters, chose the music and will be hosting and running the fashion show themselves with support from youth workers."

Tickets can be found on Eventbrite.
