A CHILDCARE centre in Lamplugh will celebrate its 21st anniversary in June.

Children at Woodend Country Childcare have been learning about local breeds of Lakeland sheep and how to mix the milk for feeding the pet lambs Tig and Tag.

Owner Claire Sharpe said: “It was really good, everyone took part in it and every child there, even babies, got an opportunity to get involved."

The day saw children interact with other animals such as alpacas and chickens, with parents being allowed to take home some freshly laid eggs.

Ms Sharpe said: "The smiles said it all! They all loved it."

Ms Sharpe who grew up in a farming family decided she wanted to go down a different path and opened her own fashion shop at aged 23 in Cockermouth.

She continued her business expansion, building up to three shops in the town, and three years later she had her first son.

Ms Sharpe later gave birth to twins, one of whom was born severely disabled. She had to let go of the shop to care for her son, but this brought about a new business venture, Woodend Country Childcare.

She said: "I had to change direction so I set up a business around my son.”

21 years later and she is still going strong. Ms Sharpe looked back on the years and said: "It is amazing. I am still looking to diversify but the future is bright. I have a really good team of staff.

"I love what I do, if you didn't then it isn't the job for you. I love bringing experiences for people.”
