This year’s Uppies and Downies saw an Uppies win.
John Irving won for the side in this year’s first game on Good Friday (March 29) which saw thousands gather for the traditional game.
Uppies were defending champions, having won all three games last year.
Downies, however, suffered fewer numbers this year than Uppies, and had to work harder to get the ball to the harbour, and stop Uppies getting the ball to Workington Hall’s gates.
Friday’s game saw much of it happen on the Black Path, until John Irving hailed the ball at the gates while the crowd shouted ‘you will never take the Curwen’.
The next game starts at 6.30pm on Tuesday, April 2, at The Cloffocks.
