Five men have now been arrested following investigations into a report that a group of men had been seen with a single firearm.
They were reported to be in the area of Meadow Road, Whitehaven yesterday (March 29).
Three of the five men were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm yesterday afternoon following the report at 2.50pm.
The further two men were arrested late last night – one on suspicion of possession of a firearm and another on suspicion of assisting an offender.
They remain in custody today.
Investigations continue and officers are appealing for anyone with information – or who saw anything suspicious – to contact them.
A number of properties have been searched by officers during the enquiry.
Residents may see an increased police presence in the area as investigations continue.
