A Brampton school's chess club is set to hold its first competitive event after a surge in interest.
William Howard School's Chess club takes place every Wednesday and has recently seen its popularity boom with students from different year groups getting involved.
Thanks to the surge in interest in the school's Chess club, Jim Connolly, who runs the club has been able to create an intra-school championship.
He said: "There have been so many that we have been able to launch a Chess Cup for the first time and over the last few weeks students from every year group have been competing each Wednesday.
"After Easter, the group matches will be completed and we will move into the final play-offs with the champion being announced at the end of April."
