Cumberland Council has completed major road upgrades, financed by a £14.3 million grant from the Government's Levelling Up Fund.
The work included the A5086 from Scallow Farm to Rowrah (£445,440 investment), the A595 Whicham Valley (£609,584), and the A5086 from Crossgates to Kirkland (£619,856). These projects encompassed extensive carriageway resurfacing, gully grate renewals, traffic sign replacements, and road stud updates among other improvements.
Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, executive member for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: "The Levelling Up Funding presents a fantastic opportunity to improve our local road network, benefiting local communities, the economy, and connectivity to jobs and services.
"The A595 and A5086 serve as vital commuting routes, and this newly improved, smoother route will be highly advantageous for all road users."
Cumberland Council announces further improvements for the upcoming financial year starting April 1, 2024. More details will be released in due course. For further information contact the Highways Hotline at 0300 373 3736.
