IT'S been a successful start to Cumbria's firefighters' charity car wash, with the Cockermouth station raising around £1,200 yesterday (March, 23).

The team expressed thanks for the support received, noting that over 160 cars stopped by for a spruce-up.

The Fire Fighters Charity will be the beneficiary of all money raised. The charity supports the mental, physical, and social needs of serving and retired firefighters.

In a post on social media, a spokesperson from Cockermouth Fire Station said: "Thank you all so much for coming and getting your car washed today.

"Thank you to all the firefighters, family members and ex-firefighters who helped out," they said.

Carlisle East Fire Station will be hosting its car wash next Saturday, March 30.

They'll host it at their Eastern Way site from 10am to 3pm.

Giving a glimpse of the day's schedule, Carlisle East Fire Station said: "The fire engines will be on hand for any interested children (and adults!) to look around, and operational crew will be expertly wielding the sponges to ensure your car is gleaming when it leaves!"
