AN 'authentic' mini Italian bistro is set to open in Brampton.

Mondello is set to be opened by Italian native Marco Bouguila on Brampton's Front Street in the unit previously occupied by Walltown Flowers.

Work is still underway to make Marco's dream a reality, with plans to give the inside of the venue an Italian twist and decorate the front of the bistro with the red, white, and green of the Italian flag.

Mondello is scheduled to open in the second half of April and ahead of its opening Marco explained how his bistro will be committed to providing an authentic Italian experience.

He said: "I have been in the catering business before, I have worked as a chef in Italy and I have worked as a chef in a couple of places in Cumbria.

"All the food that customers are going to eat here is going to be imported from Italy, nothing has been produced in Holland or in the UK... it is all going to be hand-picked.

"The cheeses, the mozzarella, the tomatoes, even the pastas, the Barilla pasta is all made in Parma and Sicily.

"We are also going to serve homemade pizzas with everything from chargrilled vegetables to fungi using fresh garlic and serving Italian red and white wines and Italian Lavazza coffee.

"It is purely for lovers of Italian food."

Marco also believes that he is filling a gap in the Brampton food scene by offering locals the chance to be transported to Italy with his bistro's cuisine and atmosphere.

"In Brampton, we have a few customers who come from Holland and tourists in the spring and the summer so why not open an Italian restaurant because Brampton does not have one?

"I want our customers to come here and enjoy the taste of good Italian food, watch Italian programs, and feel like they are in Rome - feel like they are on holiday!"
