A Carlisle charity is set to host a fashion show this week to raise awareness of ageism within the UK.

Age UK Carlisle and Eden will hold the vintage fashion show at Carlisle College on Thursday, March 21 at 6pm.

Age Friendly Co-ordinator Joanne Rayson said: "To mark International Ageism day I recently met with Hannah Milburn, tutor of the students of the level one art and textiles design course and started a conversation about ageism and how it effects our society.

"I had a proposition for her students, to hold a celebration of Age Without Limits, and create a 'See and Be Seen' Vintage Fashion Show using and upcycling clothes from our Age UK Carlisle and Eden shops.

"Both Lowther street and Earls Lane store managers welcomed them to rummage through their stock to create the fashion show. Models for the show include volunteers from our shops and social inclusion teams, as well as Age UK Carlisle and Eden CEO Alison Ambrose and Brenda Hill who is on the board of trustees and Treasurer of Age UK Carlisle and Eden.

"We have Wendy Dunn from the Rocket Theatre who kindly offered to compere the event with some light hearted banter and Jane Coulthard who has offered to do make-up and hair for our models. Be Uniforms have kindly donated 20 white t shirts for the students to print their own designs on and after the show these will be available in our shops for a small donation."

Rocket Theatre will also be opening the show.

Tickets for the event are just £2 and are available from the Age UK shops, social events and at the office in Spencer street.
