Cumberland Council has requested that residents exercise caution when travelling through Caldbeck due to migrating amphibians.

The council reacted swiftly upon receiving reports via the Highway Hotline of toads, frogs, and newts traversing roads to reach a village pond.

To mitigate risk to the amphibians, Cumberland Council has installed 'toad crossing' warning signs along the road to alert drivers.

These signs will be present until April's end, as amphibian migrations generally occur post dusk during February, March, and April.

Residents are now being urged to carefully navigate through Caldbeck, being particularly vigilant for crossing toads and frogs.

For any road-related concerns, the public can contact the Highways Hotline, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5pm on 0300 373 3736 or visit the council's website.
