A CARLISLE primary school's football team is on their way to Liverpool Football Club's Academy on the back of their county triumph.

Year 6 boys from Norman Street Primary School were crowned champions in the Pokémon Schools year 5/6 Cumbria County finals on November 16.

The unbeaten team will be representing Cumbria, playing against teams from all over northern England today (March 15) in the ESFA North Regional Finals.

Year 6 teacher and football coach, Jack Harris said: "The boys are incredibly talented footballers who just love to play football, so it is a real joy for me being a part of this team.

"They’ve been incredible so far in the previous two rounds going unbeaten and earning the right to represent Cumbria against the very best.

"Getting the opportunity to play football at Liverpool’s academy is amazing and we’re all buzzing to get down there and see how we get on.”
