Two paddleboarders in peril were saved during a multi-agency response yesterday (March 9).
Officers from Cumbria Constabulary’s Allerdale team, along with members of the Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team, and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, were part of the multi-agency rescue on Derwentwater in the afternoon.
Two paddleboarders were swept off their boards by the current and winds on the lake, a police spokesperson said.
“Scarily, the two individuals were without life vests and suitable, warm clothing.
“You should always take precautions when venturing out on open water, going without can cost you your life and that of your rescuers.
“Many thanks to the members of the public who raised the alarm, Nichol End Marina and the Derwentwater Launch who all selflessly helped,” they added.
