Carlisle United fans are being urged to roll back the years and wear their Blues kits of yesteryear at a home game next month.

Supporters’ trust CUOSC, in conjunction with the club, have announced that the Easter Monday game against Lincoln City will be “retro kit day”.

They are urging fans to wear their old United shirts from past Blues eras at the April 1 fixture.

And the fan group say that, if it’s a success, they will aim to repeat the initiative every season.

CUOSC launched the idea today with a poster of retro kits designed by United fan Rob Morley, of PrintsByRob.

The trust’s chair Dan MacLennan says it’s hoped as many fans as possible will join in by hunting out their old shirts.

“The idea is just a little bit of fun for fans,” he told the News & Star.

“Since Covid times, there’s been a big increase in fans into retro kits, so we thought why not make a day to celebrate the many unique kits that Carlisle have worn?

“We’re still finalising details but we wanted to get the idea out there so Blues can dig into their wardrobes for their favourites.

“If the day is successful, it’ll hopefully become a yearly event.

“Rob Morley from PrintByRob has done an amazing job on the poster, which we’re planning to release as a print without the text after the event.”

More details will be confirmed soon, CUOSC say.

The Lincoln fixture will be United’s third-last home game of the 2023/24 season.

The initiative could see some of the Blues’ famous strips of years gone by across the stands and terraces, such as the classic 1970s blue, red and white design – worn by the Cumbrians in the top-flight – and the iconic green, red and white “deckchair” away shirt of the mid-1990s.
