TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who died after a fire broke out in a house on the outskirts of Carlisle.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said three engines from Carlisle West, Brampton and Penrith were called out at 10.30am on Saturday morning to a 'persons reported fire' on Brisco Road, Brisco.

Crews removed a man from the fire, which was in the living room, and handed him into the care of paramedics.

But a Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said he later died.

A spokesperson from St Cuthbert Without Parish Council, which represents various areas including Brisco, said: "St Cuthbert Without Parish Council is saddened to hear of the death of one of their residents, and our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time."

A heavy emergency services presence was seen including fire engines, police cars – unmarked and marked, a CSI van, ambulances, and an air ambulance.

ACumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said on Sunday: “At 10.29am yesterday, crews from Carlisle East, Penrith and Brampton attended a property fire on Brisco Road, Brisco.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that the fire has resulted in the death of one person.

“We extend our sympathies to all those affected by yesterday’s (February 24) tragedy.”

They said crews extinguished a fire in the living room using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one thermal imaging camera, and positive pressure ventilation.

Crews were in attendance for two hours.

A Cumbria police spokesman said: Police were called at 10.34am as part of an emergency service response to a fire at a property in Brisco.

"A man was pronounced deceased following the fire.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
