A family-owned bakery in Cumbria is preparing for a busy Valentine’s Day with its novelty heart-shaped crumpets being sold at Aldi stores nationwide.

Lakeland Bake was formed in 2006, and now ships out more than five million packets per year.

For the upcoming Valentine’s Day, the bakery's heart-shaped crumpets will be available across the country, following the trend of its successful festive creations such as a Christmas tree, Easter bunny and a Halloween ghost.

The partnership with Aldi has resulted in a substantial growth for the bakery, paving the way for a site expansion and a third increase in its workforce to meet the growing demand.

Account manager at Lakeland Bake, Lee Ingram, said: "We are pleased to be supplying our special heart-shaped crumpets to Aldi stores across the UK this Valentine’s Day.

"Our partnership with Aldi has been vital to growing our business over the last 18 years and the support has meant we can continue to invest in our team as well as product innovation."

Managing director of buying at Aldi UK, Julie Ashfield, said: "Lakeland Bake has been a trustworthy supplier over the last 18 years and we are delighted to share its heart-shaped delights with our shoppers this Valentine’s Day.

"The partnership we’ve built is invaluable and we look forward to continuing our work with them in the future, bringing more of the team’s wonderful creations to our shelves."

Aldi works with approximately 5,000 suppliers across the UK and has been ranked as the best supermarket for fair and good faith relationships for 10 years according to the GSCOP annual survey.
