THE driver of a stolen vehicle was tasered in Carlisle this morning after ramming a police vehicle. 

A chase ensued after the vehicle was spotted by Cumbria Roads Police & Firearms Support Unit at around 7am (February, 4) in the city. 

The car was detained in the Westrigg Road area of the city, where the driver was tasered after 'resisting' arrest. 

A spokesperson from Cumbria Roads Police & Firearms Support Unit said: "7am morning spot by FSU/RPU of a stolen vehicle in Carlisle.

 

"Vehicle rammed a police vehicle and was then pursued through Carlisle before tactical contact was made by the Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) to disable it.

"The driver was tasered after actively resisting attempts to get him out of the vehicle."
