The grounds at Carlisle Cemetery have been closed after multiple trees were damaged due to high winds. 

Cumbria has been battered by winds of up to 80 miles per hour after Storm Isha and Storm Jocelyn moved through the county. 

Trees were felled and hundreds were left without power due to the storms. 

'Multiple' trees have sustained damage at Carlisle Cemetery and Cumberland Council have closed the cemetery until Monday. 

A social media post from the council said: "Storm Isha has left its mark at Carlisle Cemetery.

"We are working hard to deal with the multiple trees damaged during the high winds.

"To ensure the grounds are safe for visitors, they will remain closed to the public until Monday, January 29.

"After it reopens, there may still be some areas cordoned off, so please avoid entering these parts of the grounds.

"Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."
