Penrith AFC have announced that their main stand, which was closed after an accident involving a spectator, is set to reopen.

The facility at the Leo Group Stadium was shut down in late October after someone fell through a section of the stand.

Three months later, the Northern League Division One club have confirmed that the stand will reopen at this weekend's home game against Crook Town.

The announcement also comes ahead of next Tuesday's visit of Carlisle United in the Fred Conway Cumberland Cup quarter-finals.

"The main stand has been reopened and is now open for use for this Saturday’s game and the rest of the season," confirmed Penrith in a short statement.

The Health & Safety Executive served an enforcement notice which ordered that the external seating area of the stand be closed whilst investigations continued.

The incident happened at a game between Penrith AFC Ladies and Mancunian Unity on October 22.

Chairman Brian Williams said the incident was the result of a problem which had been "ongoing for some time".

Earlier this week the Health & Safety Executive, approached by the News & Star for an update on the situation, said there was "no update" and that they were still "investigating".

The ground's landlords, Westmorland & Furness Council, referred to the HSE investigation when invited to comment several days ago.

Williams, though, told BBC Radio Cumbria in an interview last weekend that the club hoped to reopen the stand for their next home game.

Penrith are in good form at their home ground having won their last six league games at the Leo Group Stadium.

Darren Edmondson's free-scoring side are 13th in the table.
