UPDATED

Parts of the M6 are currently closed due to recovery work and an overturned lorry caused by Storm Isha.

At 1.23pm, National Highways North West posted the following update:

The #M6 in #Cumbria remains closed northbound between J43 & J44 (#Carlisle) to allow for two overturned lorries to be recovered. There are still very long delays both on approach to the closure, and also on the diversion route.

National Highways also confirmed at 1.53pm that traffic was temporarily stopped on the M6 southbound between J44 (Carlisle) and J43 whilst the second overturned lorry is righted. The southbound was reopened at around 3.42pm.

Traffic has had to be stopped as there is a large amount of debris flying around the carriageway as the vehicle is being righted.

At 7.23 this morning, Cumbria Police stated that the M6 Northbound is currently closed due to recovery work and earlier overturned vehicle from J43 A69 (Carlisle) to J44 A689 (Carlisle North).

M6 Southbound is also closed due to recovery work and earlier overturned lorries from J39 B6261 (Shap) to J38 A685 (Tebay).

Recovery resources are now in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.
