A Cumbrian Police team has shared advice on sheep worrying after dogs disturbed and injured livestock earlier this week.

Cumbria Police Rural Crime Team received a report of sheep worrying in the area of Ewan Rigg Brow, Maryport.

The offence is believed to have occurred between 11.30am on January 15 and 12.30pm on January 16, in a secure field.

Within a 24 hour period the sheep have been disturbed and injured requiring veterinary attention. Sheep worrying also poses a risk of distress which may lead to abortion in some of the ewes.

Allerdale Police said: "Livestock worrying is an avoidable offence and our advice is so simple - if you are walking around livestock, particularly sheep, ensure your dog is under control and ideally on a lead. The dog doesn't have to physically attack or kill the animal for the offence to be made out."
