Keswick Film Festival to showcase 'Between the Lights'

The picturesque landscapes of Lake District and the ancient city of York take centre stage in the film, which is set to premiere at the Keswick Film Festival on February 29th at 7pm.

Michael, who directed the movie, said: "I wanted to make this film primarily to explore the themes of love, loss and discovery via an entertaining and enlightening story that also includes a dose of mysticism and spiritualism."

The film, which spans over three consecutive Christmases, intertwines themes of love and loss with an undercurrent of the supernatural.

Yielding a runtime of 106 minutes, the narrative has elements of magic realism, Michael said.

He added: "Magic realism as a narrative trope has long fascinated me, both when it’s used in novels and in filmmaking."

"I also wanted to make a film in two places dear to me: York (where I went to university) and the Lakes (where I grew up). The mountains, lakes and valleys of the Lake District are not only aesthetically dramatic, but are also rife with a sense of ancientness, myth and mystery."

The film received support from Creative England and first premiered in New York, December 2023, as part of Dances With Films.

It was also selected for the Breakthrough Strand of the BFI’s London Screenings expo and in December 2023, the film was acquired by LA-based sales agency Mind the Gap.

The global release is scheduled for November 2024, and will be available on various platforms.

The main casts are Samuel Edward-Cook, known for his roles as Walter Storey in the BBC drama series Land Girls, Danny Whizz-Bang in Peaky Blinders, and as DC Steve Beckton in the ITV drama series Innocent.

Alongside him is Inès De Clercq, a London-based actor and singer who has performed performed on stage at The Old Vic, The Bunker Theatre, and Theatre 503, among others.

Michael believes that the combination of stunning locations and an intricate, supernatural plotline will result in an "entertaining, touching, affecting, thought provoking film."
