A Carlisle charity shop has launched a window display with a slight difference to mark book month.

The Penny Jones Animal Hospice Charity shop on Earls Lane has introduced 'live' human models in the shop window to promote their selection of literature for book month.

Charity volunteers are giving up their time to sit and read a book in the front shop window.

"We have set our window display for reading by the fireside," said Marilyn Laugesen.

"Our volunteers will be taking turns during the month of January to spend time as live models reading in the window.

"What better occupation to drive the cold winter away than to read a good book by the fire?

"We started this venture last week and people were stopping and taking a second look and seemed very entertained by a real person in the window."

The Penny Jones Animal Hospice is a sanctuary for abused and elderly animals in need of care. The Sanctuary and the Charity shop are entirely run and staffed by volunteers.
