Bookends Carlisle announced its Cumbrian 2023 bestsellers, with The Farmer’s Wife by Helen Rebanks topping the list.

The independent bookshop, on Castle Street, applauded the wealth and quality of books from the region that have been flying off their shelves. 

Other notable reads to make the list were Melvynn Bragg's Back in the Day; Grace Dent's Comfort Eating; M.W Craven Fearless; Rory Stewart's Politics on the Edge; Tom Little's A Rugby League Goldmine and Chris Butterfield's Wainwright Memories to name a few. 

In a post on social media, they said: "Our number one bestseller for the year was The Farmer's Wife by Helen Rebanks- hearty congratulations to Helen Rebanks.

"It has taken us many years to build up our Cumbrian stock and we are always amazed by the wealth and quality of Cumbrian books.

"We're clearly a talented county," they said. 

Soon to hit the shelves will be a new book on Harraby by author David Ramshaw and M.W Craven's sixth Washington Poe novel, The Mercy Chair which will be available to buy on June 6.  

Bookends, which has an outlet in Keswick as well as Carlisle, offers about 1,600 Cumbrian reads.
