A Cumbrian town has been getting into the festive spirit with a new Christmas Tree festival.

The historic Arthuret Church in the market town of Longtown 'glowed' with colour during the recent Christmas Tree Festival of Light.

Longtown’s first ever Christmas tree festival, held over the first weekend of December, was a 'huge success' according to the organisers and was well-attended by locals and visitors from near and far.

The scene was set prior to the festival with the ‘switching on’ of the lights in Longtown by Paul Huntington, who captained Carlisle United to their stunning playoff final victory at Wembley against Stockport and attracted a lot of people.

The church and Longtown community came together and created a dazzling ‘winter wonderland’ Christmas atmosphere in the ancient Arthuret Parish Church.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of local businesses and individuals in and around the market town, more than 20 Christmas Trees were kindly donated and 'beautifully' decorated by the local school, sponsors and organisations.

There were also 10 individually themed Christmas windows, plus the rest of the interior of the church, all lovingly decorated by local individuals and organisations.

Many volunteers from the community helped bring creativity and seasonal joy to the event, and a wide variety of local musicians entertained the many visitors over the weekend.

For those who were unable to attend the Christmas tree festival, they can still visit Arthuret Church and enjoy the decorated trees and themed Christmas windows over the next three Sundays.
