It has been 16 years since Carlisle's very own version of Monopoly was released, and given the amount that has changed since 2007, it is high time that it was updated.

Given the 2007 game features national heritage sites such as Hadrian's Wall, which isn't actually in Carlisle, there is definitely scope for a newer version.

In fact, the former Newspaper House, which is being demolished, also features in the game, when our newer Local IQ office would perhaps be a better choice.

Therefore, here is what the News and Star thinks a 2023 version of Carlisle Monopoly could look like.

The brown set, which includes historic landmarks, could include the Old Town Hall and the Carlisle Citadel.

The light blue set, which focuses on parks and recreation, could feature Bitts, Rickerby and Chances Park.

The pink set focuses on cultural sites, where Tullie House museum and Carlisle Cathedral are a must.

Educational institutions constitute the orange set, and the University of Cumbria, Richard Rose Central Academy, and Carlisle College are our picks.

The red set of squares includes transportation hubs, where there are three obvious picks of the railway station, bus station, and M6 motorway.

The yellow set includes shopping and retail areas, and our choice include The Lanes Shopping Centre, The Crescent and Scotch Street.

Brunton Park, The Sands Centre and The Sheepmount are great picks for the sports and leisure green set.

The dark blue set, which focuses on rivers and areas of natural beauty, could include the river Eden and Talkin Tarn.

Utilities could include Carlisle Utilities Company and Carlisle Water Works, while railroad stations might be Carlisle citadel, London Road, Durranhill and Wetheral.

Community Chest prizes could include collecting £200 for advancing to the Old Town Hall, or winning £50 from the Carlisle in Bloom competition.

Go to Jail – Do not pass "Carlisle Castle"

Chance cards could include paying £50 for a guided tour or collecting £100 from each player after being elected mayor.

Carlisle Castle would make a great jail, and anyone caught driving on the city walls would go straight to jail.
